Amsterdam is known for its red light district and the many coffee shops that can be found. As the city centre is flooded with tourists nowadays, I prefer other streets than shopping streets like de Kalverstraat. This tour takes you through Amsterdam South that is famous for the many Young Urban Professionals(YUPs) that live here. This is an authentic area and the big crowd is unfamiliar with this area. This free walking route in Amsterdam will guide you to some cool spots in Amsterdam south.

Start at the Heineken Brouwerij and walk south to the Avocado Show. They serve all kinds of meals with avocados. Next take a coffee to go at het Paardje that is located at het Gerard Douwplein. This is close to the Albert Cuyp market where you can buy all kinds of fresh food. After that, walk to het Sarfati park that is nice and calm to relax a bit. After that, have a look at Coffee and Coconuts – an awesome place where you can sit outside to view all people that pass buy. The people that pass by dress up nicely and therefore a cool place to sit for a while. Walk along the Ceintuurbaan and if you cross the canal there is an interesting shop that sells exotic stuffed animals. Have a look inside and discover all kinds of insects an animals here, from zebras to lions and flamingos!

Now you have entered the Roelof Hartstraat. This street is pretty and a lot of nice shops are located here such as the soap treament store. Walk straight and after a while you enter het Museumplein. Here you can visit the Van Gogh Museum that is excellent to spend your afternoon. Vincent van Gogh is the Dutch painter that is famoous for its Starry Night and Cafe terrace at night paintings. After that you learned something new about the Dutch art, you walk to het Vondelpark – the most famous and largest park of Amsterdam. Here you can sit and have a look at all sporty people that pass by. Exit the park and you will findthe Riviera Maison. I love this furniture as it is really cool styled and sells cool rural furtniture! Here you enter the PC Hooftstraat. This is the most exclusive shopping street of Amsterdam where you find all kinds of luxury shops. Cross the water and you enter het Leidseplein. De Melkweg is located here – this is a famous club of Amsterdam where cool parties are organised. Moreover, the Bulldog is located at the Leidseplein – this is the first Coffee shop of Amsterdam.

Go straight, cross some canals, and at the Keizersgracht you turn left. If you walk straight for a while you will enter de negen straatjes, a pretty shopping area with small boutiques. Our tour finishes at the Anne Frank House – the place where Anne Frank hid during the second world war. A really interesting museum where the story of the diary of Anne Frank comes alive. Try to avoid peak times as you will have to wait for a while!

We start at the Fries Museum. Here you can find all kinds of Frisian art and temporary exhibitions, such as an exhibition of Mata Hari. Walk down het Zaailand and you find De Neushoorn – this is a relatively new place where you can find bands. They also organize other events such as start-up evenings. Eventually we go right at the Kleine Kerkstraat, which has been awarded as nicest shopping street of The Netherlands! Go right and enter the Grote Kerkstraat. After a while we go right and we see a square with some nice restaurants such as De Walrus. If you are more interested in high end food – go to Sems, at the opposite of the street. Go left on the Eewal until you see the canals. Go left here and after a while you see the ice cream shop La Venezia, the best one of Leeuwarden!
